Renovations are Underway!

November 2007

Renovations are nearly complete at the Middletown Youth Center and it is looking fantastic! Renovations are scheduled for completion at the Market Street Youth Center later this year. This summer, Delaware Youth for Christ received a very generous grant from the Longwood Foundation which makes the renovations possible.

The extensive renovations at the Middletown Youth Center include:
- Repaired & repainted masonry outside the buidling
- New roof, shingles, gutters and fascia
- New windows and blinds
- Repaired flooring and new carpet on the main floor
- Repaired water damage & resealed basement
- New landing, front steps, railings & handicapped access ramp

The Town of Middletown is also installing new brick sidewalks all along Green St. We would like to offer our sincere thanks to Marrs Contracting for their diligent work and their generous contributions to the project.

The work being done at the Market Street Youth Center is also extensive, and will include:
- New roof and gutters
- New windows and repaired and repainted exterior of the building
- Removal of damaged concrete walkways behind the center
- New floors and walls on the first floor
- A new kitchen on the first floor
- Removing walls and creating a large room on the 3rd floor

Technology Upgrades for
Homework Club

We want to thank the Bank of America Charitable Foundation for providing internet access for our homework clubs for one full year. The grant also pays for new laser printers for the homework club.

And with special thanks to Wilmington Trust, we are getting 2 new computers for each of the youth centers in New Castle County and one new computer for the Dover Youth Center. The grant also pays for internet content filtering, which (together with staff supervision) will make sure the kids are using the internet for our intended purpose.

As exciting as all of these upgrades are to our staff and the kids, the bottom line is that we are now offering a better environment to serve the needs of at-risk young people, and to carry out our mission of helping them reach their full academic, social and spiritual potential.

Special thanks to Courtney Gabor and Tom Stevenson at Cash-Connect for their help in writing the Homework Club Grant which has provided the new computers and internet access.
