$51/month + 1 scholarship of $200 is all it takes to sponsor one local teen who is actively engaged in our ministry on a weekly basis—making a real and lasting difference in his or her life.

For 51 weeks of the year, our core ministry, City Life, reaches out to young people, focusing on relationships that draw them to Jesus. Once a year, we engage kids in a “life changing experience” such as a summer camp, retreat or special trip. We have “51 experiences” weekly and “1 Major Experience” annually.

Our vision is clear. We seek to reach Delaware’s most vulnerable youth with the message of Godʼs love. This year we will have over 200 teenagers who participate in our City Life ministry on a weekly basis. It is our goal to reach each and every one for Christ.

Through your sponsorship, you can offer a teen in Delaware a chance not only to know of God, but to be known by God, eternally impacting a young person right here in our state. Your support allows one teenager to experience the fun, loving, and Christ-centered relationships that make up City Life.

On Thursday, September 29th, Delaware Youth for Christ will hold its 21st Annual Dave Tiberi Golf Open at Back Creek Golf Club. This event attracts numerous Delaware businesses and golf enthusiasts and offers a great opportunity to enjoy a round of golf while supporting a tremendous cause.

The Dave Tiberi Youth Center is responding; through our presence and actions, kids find a safe place to get off the street as we work to meet their social, scholastic and spiritual needs in a safe environment.

Did you know?

• 24% of youth residing in Wilmington are below poverty level.
• 249 dropouts in the school district of the Dave Tiberi Youth Center.
• 242 arrests of juveniles happened within Wilmington due to violent crimes.
• 243 births to teens in Wilmington, which is 51% of total births to teens when compared to New Castle County.

DelYFC, with the financial assistance of Embrace Wilmington, has partnered with Film Brothers Movie Co-op to create a modern day telling of the prodigal son. This isn’t the story you heard at your summer vacation bible school. This is YOUR version. Yes, that’s right, your version. This film comes to you from the minds of today’s brightest art students, film makers, non-profit staffers, preachers, and small business owners alike. As Gordon DelGiorno so simply put it, there is a “little bit of each and every one of us in it.”

Prodigal: The Movie is a family’s journey to succeed. In many ways they are already successful. The DelYFC students made a point in the formulation of the script to show this African-American family, as an intact family where both mom, dad, and children are present. They were simply tired of seeing their community portayed in ways which are not accurate. There are African-American families which are not torn apart by drugs and violence, but instead where parents have conversations and children go to school and work. This story does exist. There are families that are trying to do the right thing. But Prodigal is more than this. Prodigal is where Christ meets culture.

The message of the Gospel has for centuries been told and retold, to different people, in different ways. The apostle Paul was a master of using persuasive language, uniquely talored and delivered to a targeted audience. This movie will not appeal to everyone, most movies don’t. Our hope is that like Paul, the good news will reach those that need it the most, in ways that they can understand, and through a tool that they will appreciate. This is a film for the lost youth, by the found youth. This is very exciting.

DelYFC hopes that you will help us spread the good news by means of this film. We have lots more to do, but are very excited about the prospects. Keep us in your prayers as we complete the filling of roles, shooting of the film, editing and premier. As always, thank you for your continued support of Delaware Youth for Christ.

Mike Williams joins us again for what is sure to a night full of laughter and reflection. Mike Williams is an author, speaker, and comedian who has made millions of people laugh. His faith and family friendly material has been seen on network television shows, numerous magazine articles, six books, over ten CD’s and eight DVD’s, or through his live concerts. His life story will leave you marveling at the grace and mercy of God. Mike makes his home in the Dominican Republic with his wife of twenty-six years, and their four children where they direct a ministry to Spanish and Haitian speaking pastors. City Life is a relational, holistic, community based ministry that desires to see deep change in an urban neighborhood through the raising of indigenous leaders from the young people in that community.

What is City Life trying to do?

Our vision is to empower urban youth to change their community for Christ.

How is City Life trying to do it?

• By keeping a tight neighborhood focus and living in that neighborhood if the Spirit leads.
• By doing relational, holistic ministry with a critical mass of youth from that neighborhood.
• By raising indigenous leaders who don’t move out, but stay and give back.

Since 2008, The National City Life Leadership Team began implementing a strategic plan in order to better resource those on the field doing urban youth ministry. Our vision is that together we will be able to facilitate stronger holistic, relational evangelism of urban youth and to assist those on the field to raise indigenous leaders from their City Life ministry.

City Life Timeline

The City Life core ministry model has its roots in a rich history of YFC desiring to reach high-risk youth. Lifeline ministries launched this passion through camps and trips, but when the model evolved to a year round ministry it was called Youth Guidance. Youth Guidance focused primarily on youth in systems and staff saw there was the need to develop a ministry model that worked with young people in urban communities before they might become incarcerated. Urban Ministries and then City Life was born!

• 1948 – Saturday Night Youth Rallies Begin
• 1958 – Bible Clubs Begin
• 1963 – Lifeline Summer Camps Begin
• 1965 – Lifeline Ministries Begin Year-round
• 1972 – First Youth Guidance Operations Manual
• 1977 – First National Urban Division Field Staff Director Appointed
• 1999 – Urban Ministries name changed to City Life
